Whenever teachers would return rough drafts or second drafts, I'd always laugh to myself and think, "awesome, no homework for this class!" I'd go home to do the automatic check in with my parents and joke that they would find me watching television for the rest of the day, explaining that my draft was never actually a draft; rather, it was a final paper I put a 'whole bunch of time and effort' into. I'll admit I was pretty childish at this stage in my life, and perhaps I still am, but, nonetheless, I wish I wasn't so lazy in my younger years.
Just today we were asked to revisit our papers for the third time. I desperately wanted to roll my eyes and throw my paper on the desk, for the foolish reason that I genuinely believed my paper was complete. We were instructed to rewrite the ending in three different ways--THREE DIFFERENT WAYS. That's six paragraphs and thirty five minutes of non-stop writing for an essay with an ending I was perfectly happy with. Exactly. I was happy with the ending before I realized it was barely an ending at all; I completely missed the point of what I was trying to prove and now I can honestly say that without this revision, the paper itself would have been futile.
So if there is any point in this rant, I guess what I'm trying to say is revise your work three times. Ten times. A hundred times!! The number is not as significant as how you feel about your work; one paper's revision will be longer than another's. If you feel as though your paper is done, try reading it or rewriting it in another perspective. If the paper is still conclusive, you've done it!! If not, well, get ready to do some work. Though it is tedious, it will pay off in the end--i guarantee it.
